• Series B round led by Index Ventures
• Investment to accelerate international rollout
Movinga (www.movinga.de), Germany’s first and leading online removals company, has raised $25m in a Series B round led by Index Ventures, alongside existing investors. Still less than a year old, the fast-growing startup is transforming the traditional relocation industry through smart technologies and a strong network of local logistics partners. The Movinga team plans to use the investment to accelerate business development and underpin international rollout.
Movinga relocates customers in a very convenient and highly reliable way. Offering its services via a unique online platform, the startup generates added value in two ways. First, the Movinga database harnesses excess capacities from professional regional removal partners – which enables the company to keep prices low. Second, customers can plan their removal conveniently, quickly, and precisely on the Internet. These online components bundle resources for the benefit of the customer in an otherwise offline-dominant market.
“We are hugely impressed by Movinga’s flawless execution and rapid internationalisation,” said Index Ventures’ Timm Schipporeit. “We firmly believe in their vision to build Europe’s leading marketplace for removals, a huge category which had yet to be addressed. Bastian and the team offer customers a vastly enhanced and seamless experience when it comes to requesting a price, booking and conducting a move. Similarly, Movinga provides leading removal companies with a comprehensive end-to-end marketing, booking and planning platform, creating extraordinary efficiencies for all parties.”
Hendrik Brandis, Co-Founder and Partner Earlybird Venture Capital: “We are supporting Movinga since its foundation and were convinced by their model and team from the very first day on. That’s why we are very happy that now a prominent international investor joins our ranks as the company begins to roll-out its business fast in more and more countries.”
Bastian Knutzen, Movinga’s Founder and Managing Director, added: “We are delighted to be closing our Series B investment after launching only eleven months ago, in January 2015. Furthermore, we are particularly proud to welcome such a renowned investor as Index Ventures. Movinga is the first global moving company that is truly reinventing the industry. As we continue to develop and provide our unique platform to ever-growing numbers, we will now be investing strongly in talent, technology and customer care.”
News of the investment comes just four months after Movinga announced two seven-figure funding rounds. Earlybird Venture Capital, Heilemann Ventures and various leading business angels including Florian Heinemann (Project A Ventures), Christian Vollmann (MyVideo), Philipp Kreibohm (Home24), David Khalil and Lukas Brosseder (eDarling), Marco Vietor (audibene), and Tim Marbach (KaufDA) participated in the first of these. The second investment came from Global Founders Capital, the venture arm of Rocket Internet SE, and took place just two weeks after the initial financing round. Also, just recently, Finn Haensel, former MD of Rocket Internet and Australia’s largest online fashion company THE ICONIC, joined the founders as third MD handling Marketing, Product and IT.
“Movinga has revolutionized the European moving market in only a few months,” said Oliver Samwer, CEO of Rocket Internet. “It is our pleasure to support the company in its explosive growth and to accelerate expansion in further markets with our investment.“
